About SFN ProjectsThe STFC Food Network+ (SFN) has funded more than 80 scoping projects since our launch in 2017. Our innovative, collaborative, and impactful projects are funded in order to give them the chance to make a meaningful contribution to the food system. All of our projects combine the expertise of STFC researchers with food researchers and industry practitioners. Scoping ProjectsWe have funded more than 80 Scoping projects up to the value of £10k per project since the start of our Network in 2017. Many of these have gone on to receive media coverage, further funding and to publish papers in high impact journals. Proof of Concept ProjectsIn 2021 we launched our first Proof of Concept funding call offering up to £25k for projects that would either build on the previous work undertaken by SFN Scoping Projects or that would pursue new research applying STFC capabilities for use in food research and industry.

ECR InternshipsIn 2021 we launched our Early Career Researcher (ECR) Secondment and Internships Scheme. Within this we invited ECRs to apply for funding up to £5k per project to allow them to undertake Agri-food related projects through a secondment in an STFC department, or within an industry, policymaker, or civil society organisation. These secondments are intended to support the career development of Food Researchers (broadly defined) or researchers working in fields covered by STFC and run for up to 6 months.
